The Singapore Qualification Assessment (SQA) is the examination route used by the Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) of Singapore for foreign-trained seafarers to obtain a Singapore Certificate of Competency. Seafarers must clear the applicable written papers and oral examination to be issued the COC.
Deck and engine officers from the management and operational levels — from OOW / 2nd Mate and 4th Engineer right up to Chief Mate, Master, 2nd Engineer and Chief Engineer — can apply, subject to approved sea service and certificates.
